Dale Heydlauff

Graduated: 1978
Major: Political Science
Minor: Speech Communication

Additional: Forensics Team (Three national championships); Madrigal Singers; theater; American Government tutor

Currently: Mr. Heydlauff is Vice-President of New Generation American Electric Power

Testimonial: My major prepared me for a very successful career in the world of public policy development, both in the public and private sectors.  For the first 27 years of my professional life, I have specialized in federal, state and international government relations. Much of this focus has been with the intent to inform and help shape the outcome of federal, state and international policies, especially in the areas of energy and environmental protection. I have also been heavily involved with international policy development on the issues of global climate change and sustainable development. The broad political science curriculum at EMU built the solid foundation upon which my career has been built and the academic rigors of the program taught me how to think critically and creatively, a skill that has helped enable my career to flourish.

Emily Bonneau

Graduated: 2003
Double Major: Political Science and Journalism

Activities: Eastern Echo, Alpha Gamma Delta

Currently: Ms. Bonneau received a Master of Arts degree at Texas A&M University and is currently teaching at Blinn College in Texas.

Testimonial: I owe my success in graduate school to a large part to my time spent in Eastern Michigan's political science department. Many of my professors took the time to work with me after class and help me develop my own research interests. I cowrote a paper with Dr. Jeffrey Bernstein that I presented at the Southern Political Science Association as an undergraduate. That experience really taught me what it meant to be a political scientist, and gave me a head start to what I would be doing in graduate school and in the field. I was among the best prepared in my graduate program, particularly in the way of research methods and statistical training. Without the encouragement and support given to me by EMU's political science faculty I would not have been as prepared for work at the graduate level.
